What does this mean for you?
Additional layers of security will soon be required for your Online Account log in and when creating payments. This is a requirement of PSD2 and is designed to protect all clients when making electronic payments.
Strong customer authentication (SCA) is a requirement of the latest Payment Services Directive (PSD2) and the requirement ensures that electronic payments are performed with multi-factor authentication, to enhance the security of payments and help protect against fraud.
We are introducing changes to our secure online platform, so that two-factor authentication (2FA) becomes mandatory when logging in and when creating a payment. This is a security process that adds to the existing username and password requirement making it much harder for criminals to compromise. Knowing the password alone, through either phishing or stolen password databases, is not enough for cyber criminals when 2FA is usedas an additional code will be required which you will control.
When logging into your secure online platform, you will have the option to set your authentication method via an SMS to your phone number or an Authentication App (e.g. Google Authenticator, Authy). You will be promptedto activate 2FA using one of these methods before you can access your account.
When logging into the online platform, you will need to enter the 2FA code that you receive via SMS or Authentication App. After successfully logging into the online platform with 2FA, you have the option of not requiring a 2FA code for 30 days.
Changes to your payments in the Secure Online Platform
When creating a payment in the online platform, you will be prompted to set up 2FA for Payments. If you already have SMS activated as your Authentication Method for logging into online platform, you do not need to go through the 2FA setup process for payments. Frontierpay will use your mobile number that is already setup for 2FA on login.
When instructing a payment, you will receive a 2FA code via SMS which will contain masked details of your payment. This code is a one-time password specific to the payment you’re creating. This significantly improves security, as it makes it extremely difficult for fraudsters to replicate a unique 2FA code and redirect your funds fraudulently.
